WVTK Local & State News – May 14, 2018

Main Street in Middlebury  will be closed tonight. Starting at 9 o’clock tonight until 5 am tomorrow morning, the street will be closed from Seymour Street to the roundabout.  This is so crews from the Highway Department to paint crosswalks and parking spaces in the downtown. Traffic control will be present to assist motorists with detours.

 

The Vermont Legislature has passed a budget.  Lawmakers returned to the Statehouse Saturday and worked through the evening.  The budget, if signed of by Governor Phil Scott, will fund the government through the middle of 2019.  Although Scott has vowed to veto any budget that contains tax increases. Scott has also said he’ll veto minimum wage and paid family leave bills.  

 

The Green Mountain Care Board has received requests from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Vermont and MVP Health Care for rate increases for next year.  Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont is requesting an average annual rate increase of 7.5% over 2018 rates, while MVP Health Care is requesting a 10.9% average annual rate increase.  The Board will hold hearings on the proposed rates in July.

 

The Bristol Selectboard meets tonight.  The board will continue consideration of conducting a citizen survey regarding customer interest in Vermont Gas.  Also on the agenda is a plan to consider renewal of the Line of Credit with People’s United Bank for the West Street project and the board will also consider authorization of a principal-only payment on the South Street Bridge of $15,669.41, to be rolled into a loan in August.  Tonight’s meeting starts at 7 o’clock at Holley Hall.

The Brandon Select Board is looking for people interested in becoming a participant on a new Energy Committee to aid in the development of an Energy Plan for the Town of Brandon.  This is a short term working group.
