SUMMARY:January Book Club – Hamnet
DESCRIPTION:January 10 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm\n\n\n\nHamnet\, by Maggie O’Farrell\nCalling all readers! The Bixby Book Club meets the second Tuesday of every month at 6pm. We read a variety of books\, spanning the genres of contemporary\, literary\, and historical fiction\, as well as non-fiction\, biography\, and classics. Didn’t read or finish the book? No worries! This is a no-judgement book club. \nThis meeting will be held in the Bixby Vermont Room at 6pm and also be held virtually on Zoom\, click here to enter the Zoom room. Please email Martha Sanborn if you want to join virtually\, martha.sanborn@bixbylibrary.org \nBooks can be reserved by emailing Laksamee at laksamee.putnam@bixbylibrary.org  \nView a list of 2022 reads here. \nThe book for January is “Hamnet” by Maggie O’Farrell \n  \n  \n  \nDescription from Amazon: \nIn 1580’s England\, during the Black Plague a young Latin tutor falls in love with an extraordinary\, eccentric young woman in this “exceptional historical novel” (The New Yorker) and best-selling winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction. \nAgnes is a wild creature who walks her family’s land with a falcon on her glove and is known throughout the countryside for her unusual gifts as a healer\, understanding plants and potions better than she does people. Once she settles with her husband on Henley Street in Stratford-upon-Avon she becomes a fiercely protective mother and a steadfast\, centrifugal force in the life of her young husband\, whose career on the London stage is taking off when his beloved young son succumbs to sudden fever.A luminous portrait of a marriage\, a shattering evocation of a family ravaged by grief and loss\, and a tender and unforgettable re-imagining of a boy whose life has been all but forgotten\, and whose name was given to one of the most celebrated plays of all time\, Hamnet is mesmerizing\, seductive\, impossible to put down—a magnificent leap forward from one of our most gifted novelists. \n\n

SUMMARY:Bixby Book Club – The Paris Library
DESCRIPTION:February 14 @ 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm\n\n\n\nCalling all readers! \nThe book for February is “The Paris Library” by Janet Skeslien Charles \n  \n  \nDescription from Amazon: \nAn instant New York Times\, Washington Post\, and USA TODAY bestseller—based on the true story of the heroic librarians at the American Library in Paris during World War II—The Paris Library is a moving and unforgettable “ode to the importance of libraries\, books\, and the human connections we find within both” (Kristin Harmel\, New York Times bestselling author). \nParis\, 1939: Young and ambitious Odile Souchet seems to have the perfect life with her handsome police officer beau and a dream job at the American Library in Paris. When the Nazis march into the city\, Odile stands to lose everything she holds dear\, including her beloved library. Together with her fellow librarians\, Odile joins the Resistance with the best weapons she has: books. But when the war finally ends\, instead of freedom\, Odile tastes the bitter sting of unspeakable betrayal. \nMontana\, 1983: Lily is a lonely teenager looking for adventure in small-town Montana. Her interest is piqued by her solitary\, elderly neighbor. As Lily uncovers more about her neighbor’s mysterious past\, she finds that they share a love of language\, the same longings\, and the same intense jealousy\, never suspecting that a dark secret from the past connects them.
