BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Despite safety concerns, officials say the Vermont Burlesque Festival’s Burlington show went off without a hitch.

Patrons took to social media before the event to express conerns about crime and safety in the Queen City. In response, festival organizers, the city, and the Hilton Hotel amped up security at the College Street Parking Garage.

Festival Executive Producer Cory Royer says ticket sales are still low, but those who have shown up since the festival’s Wednesday kickoff have felt comfortable. “Smiles on their faces at the end of the night and saying, ‘That was amazing, I really enjoyed myself,’” Royer said. “When we can produce that in a safe environment, that makes it worth it.”

Royer says the 11-year-old event wouldn’t be possible without Burlington’s community and businesses that continue to show up. Saturday marks the last night of the festival with music, shows, and an afterparty.
