BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont may be landlocked, but the state’s namesake has been on the high seas for four years as of Thursday.
A resolution that will be read in the statehouse on Thursday designates April 18th as USS Vermont Day in the Green Mountain State. It will also honor the crew aboard the nuclear submarine nicknamed “Big Sugar.”
Each newly assigned sailor gets a bag containing Vermont staples like a pint of maple syrup, a Vermont Strong license plate, and Darn Tough socks.
Members of the USS Vermont support group will be at the statehouse on Thursday to teach Vermonters about their namesake submarine.
