BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Kids Fest combines two pre-pandemic events that many families enjoyed in the Burlington area.

“We just came so the kids can have fun,” South Burlington resident Dahiro Iftin said.

“Have more things like this you know more sun, more vitamin D it’s a good start to spring,” Essex resident Dustin Bruley said.

Safe Kids Vermont and The University of Vermont Children’s Hospital previously hosted New American Safety Festival and the YMCA had annually put on Healthy Kids Day.

“I love this event the kids that I take care of call it the party, the big festival, they really like it. Kids have a great time, they get to come we get to talk about safety but it’s in a way that makes it really fun for them,” Dr. Andrea Green of UVM Medical Center said.

These organizations have joined forces to bring together 30 groups from across the community to engage youth and families with educational activities like getting free-fitted bicycle helmets.

Hundreds of people gathered at the second annual Kids Fest at the YMCA. The event is to celebrate health, safety and fun.

“This year’s kids fest is really special for everybody because we all need something to bring joy. Just bring people together to have a positive experience we really need more of that.,” Jess Lukas of Greater Burlington YMCA said.

Andrea Green says this event truly brings the Chittenden County community together.

“This event really brings the full Burlington community we see kids lots of different ages, families from different backgrounds and everybody’s here together to really celebrate our community and celebrate each other and being safe and having a good time,” she said.

Lukas says teaching kids how to be safe while having fun is important for everyone.

“Clearly, we have to love each other and it’s so important to bring everyone together because we’re all responsible not only for ourselves but each other too,” Jess Lukas said.
