Barre City man recovering after stabbing

BARRE CITY, Vt. (WCAX) – A Barre City man is recovering after police say he was stabbed several times in his sleep.

It happened Sunday morning, when Barre City police officers responded to a residence on Merchant St. at around 7:15.

Police say when they arrived they learned a 28-year-old male resident had been stabbed.

The victim said he was sleeping when 30-year-old Philip Mensah of Montpelier allegedly stabbed him four times – once in the neck, twice in the shoulder and once in the arm.

Police say Mensah was visiting one of the victim’s housemates.

He was allegedly pulled off the victim and then ran away.

Police found him closeby and took him into custody after a short struggle.

The victim was treated at the hospital and then released.

Mensah is being held without bail and will appear in court on Monday.
