N.Y. to audit utility companies amid rate hikes

ALBANY, N.Y. (WCAX) – Your utility provider might be under extra scrutiny.

It is an effort to make sure management isn’t living too large as utility bills continue to rise.

The public commission approved a plan to audit how much executives are paid at utility companies in New York. Governor Kathy Hochul issued that directive earlier this week.

It comes as Con Edison and the New York Power Authority announced rate hikes.

The plan is the latest move in the state’s attempts to better align utility company goals with state objectives of affordability, reliability, and environmental friendliness.
