SWANTON VILLAGE, Vt. (WCAX) – The Village of Swanton is asking its voters to once again approve a big project.
“So the costs compared to the first responder building are much lower. The way that they are funding it is a lot better I think,” said Swanton Village resident Damon Broderick.
Broderick is one of the few that spent his Saturday looking at the Swanton Village Electric Department.
The village is asking its voters to approve an eight-million-dollar project for a new electric department and Broderick is on board.
“I think going forward this will help our electric department. It will help the Village of Swanton, to be able to grow. Or, add new equipment, or expand as needed,” said Broderick.
Last year the village pitched a 14 million dollar public safety building on Town Meeting Day. Voters turned it down as it was too expensive, only village residents will vote on the bond but all thirty eight hundred customers will front the bill.
People that WCAX spoke to that live in the village that did not want to be on camera tell me that they either don’t know enough about the project, or it is just really expensive. Officials with the department say, they need this; as there is not enough room in the current facility.
“We don’t have the spacing to keep all the equipment that we need inside, that we should be keeping inside. We manage,” said Duane Couture Swanton Village Electric Department.
If residents would like to hear more about the project another meeting will happen on the 19th.
