SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated album, The Life of a Showgirl, dropped at midnight.
It’s a hot topic across the world and right here in our region.
We sent our Sophia Thomas to Target, where a crowd gathered at midnight to get their hands on a physical copy of the album.
It was a small but mighty crew here at Target.
A few dozen people clung to these admit-one tickets, waiting for the clock to strike midnight.
Target, typically closed by 10 p.m., opened its doors just before midnight until 1 a.m. to release the album on vinyl and CD.
Fueled by Starbucks samples, Swifties in themed outfits danced in line and sang along to old Taylor Swift music pumped through the store’s stereo.
Many said they’ve spent Swift’s previous album drops at home, so the pop-up party at Target was a cool shake-up.
“It’s so fun because like everyone is here to have fun, get the vinyl, get CDs, have a good time. Starbucks? Great time,” said Abbey Road of Burlington.
“I heard that the colors are going to be green and orange, and the producers are going to be the same as her earlier albums,” said Malia Fujiwara of California
“I have been a Swiftie for a while now, and I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited for one of her albums, so I was like, ‘I’ve got to go to Target for this one,’” said Kayla Pitch of Burlington.
When Sophia left around 12:20, the Target still had 150 vinyls left. They closed at 1 a.m.
Life of a Showgirl is Swift’s twelfth album.
Fans turned out at Target and record stores around the country for a copy.
It’s a rare phenomenon in a time when listening to new music is as simple as hitting play on your phone.
Sophia got her hands on a vinyl for reporter and anchor Lucy Caile, who’s a big fan of Swift.
Lucy and lots of other fans are celebrating through Friday night with the release of a short film about the album.
That’s playing at movie theaters across the region.
