BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A nationwide strike touched our region starting on this day in 1960.
The International Electrical Workers Union set up picket lines at General Electric plants across the country, including Burlington.
The strike was divisive, and scuffles broke out as non-strikers crossed picket lines.
Support for the union’s position eroded with each passing day, and thousands of union members around the country returned to their jobs.
After 21 days, a settlement was reached, bringing the strike to an end.
