Richard Kemp Center hosts annual block party

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Richard Kemp Center hosted its fourth annual block party Saturday.

The center is aimed at youth development, wellness and racial equity.

The block party had a bunch of activities for kids to do like basketball, roller skating and face painting.

Community members also heard from guest speakers — and enjoyed live music.

Mentors at the center say events like this allow kids to meet more faces in the area, and encourage conversation about shared experiences.

“It’s a beautiful thing that they do for the community, it’s completely free and you get a lot of not only face painting and stuff, but just like people who have a lot of wisdom and stuff that you can ask questions and things about. We just had a whole panel about college questions for our mentees, and they were asking so many wonderful questions so it’s a nice place to get that,” Bety Mayani of the Richard Kemp Center said.

The center plans to continue this ‘back to school event’ for years to come.
