Manchester holds second annual pumpkin carving contest on town green

MANCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) – Pumpkins dot the Manchester Town Green as part of the town’s second carving contest. Over a dozen people sliced up their gourds as part of the new tradition, with business leaders reporting an even larger turnout this year.

All the carvings will be lit come nighttime. The contest runs in conjunction with Harvest Days, which offers more family-friendly activities and live music throughout the weekend.

Local leaders said it’s important to give families a chance to explore Manchester prior to a busy Halloween.

“Obviously lots going to be happening around Halloween time, especially with kids trick or treating or just doing events. This kind of mid-October always seems to work better because we’re in the middle of foliage season or just towards the end and people have a little bit more time on their hands to enjoy,” said John Burnham, Manchester Business Association executive director.

The carving winners will be given gift cards to some of the local shops throughout the town. The pumpkins will be lit up throughout Saturday and Sunday night.
