BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Sen. Bernie Sanders is helping push Vermont’s latest legal challenge against the Trump administration over cuts to a low-income solar energy program that he helped champion in Congress.
The $7 billion program, part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, aims to install solar on some 8,000 Vermont homes, funding that has now been clawed back by the EPA. EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin called the program a “boondoggle.”
“Let’s be clear, their action is illegal. This money was appropriated by Congress, it was signed by the president. You can’t just take back what you don’t like, that’s illegal,” Sen. Sanders, I-Vermont, said Friday.
The lawsuits marks the 30th and 31st that Vermont has signed on to against the Trump administration since January.”
