Soaking rain brings an end to statewide burn ban

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont forestry officials on Friday rescinded a statewide burn ban that had been in place for the past month.

The Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation says that the more than two inches of rain the past week helped reduce wildfire. That comes despite the fact that the U.S. Drought Monitor on Thursday reported that much of the state remains in extreme or severe drought.

With the statewide debris burn ban lifted, town forest fire Wardens once again have the authority to issue permits based on local conditions.
