WOODSTOCK, Vt. (WCAX) – A body found Friday afternoon along the Ottauquechee River has been identified as a 19-year-old Hartland man who had been reported missing after fleeing a crash scene.
Benjamin Johnsen was found dead on the bank of the Ottauquechee River in the area of Old River Road and Rolling Ridge Drive at approximately 4:16 p.m. on Nov. 29, according to the Woodstock Police Department.
The incident began Nov. 28 at around 11:06 p.m. when Woodstock police received a report of a single vehicle crash on East Woodstock Road near Britten Lane. Police responded and located a gray sedan off the roadway that had crashed into a tree.
Investigation revealed that Johnsen had fled the crash scene before law enforcement arrived. Police were unable to locate him.
On Nov. 29 Woodstock emergency personnel located an unknown male dead. The body was later positively identified as Johnsen.
The body was sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Burlington for an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
The police say at this time the death does not appear to be suspicious.
