RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Rutland’s Chaffee Art Center opened its doors Saturday for its annual gingerbread contest.
The opening reception at the historic mansion featured a range of holiday gingerbread houses and had families taste sweet treats as well as create and decorate their own cookies and Christmas cards.
Organizers say the gingerbread houses are a good way to encourage visitors to find something else to love in the mansion.
“Your heart fills when you watch all these people come in and really enjoy the Chaffee and enjoy the gingerbread and all we have to offer,” said Sherri Birkheimer Rooker, Chaffee Art Center Executive Director. “The kids get to do the card making and cookie decorating and the sweets. That’s what the holidays are all about right — family, friends, food, fun.”
Visitors can view and vote for their favorite gingerbread creation through the rest of the month.
