This Day in History: NH gives up claims to Vermont

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – New Hampshire gave up its claims to Vermont on This Day in History.

New York and New Hampshire both claimed parts of Vermont, even after Vermont established itself as an independent republic in 1777.

New Hampshire ended its claims to land west of the Connecticut River on January 13, 1781. That would help pave the way to Vermont statehood 10 years later.
