WASHINGTON (WCAX) – A Florida businesswoman has pleaded guilty to a health care scheme involving Vermonters.
The Department of Justice says Evelyn Herrera, 62, of Loxahatchee, Florida, who owned a medical equipment company, admitted to her crimes.
Authorities say Herrera used Vermonters’ identities to submit fraudulent claims to Medicare for wrist, knee and back braces that patients didn’t ask for and didn’t get.
The feds say Medicare paid out almost $3 million based on those false claims.
