Vergennes running low on road salt supply

VERGENNES, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont’s smallest city is running low on its road salt supply as harsh winter conditions continue to impact the region.

Public works officials with the city of Vergennes say they are rationing road salt, but have enough for the next storm.

They say this year’s harsh winter has stressed the supply chain, making it hard for them to secure salt.

The shortage is ongoing, so city officials recommend being extra careful on the roads and sidewalks.

Editor’s Note: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that the city of Vergennes was out of salt. That information was based on a Facebook post from the city. City officials have since clarified that Vergennes is not out of salt but is currently low on supply. The story has been updated to reflect this clarification.
