BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Bitterly cold temperatures and wind chills have now made their way into the region. The worst of this will be tonight through Saturday morning. Early morning lows on Saturday will be anywhere from the single digits to the 20s below zero. The wind chill will be 20-below to as much as 40 below zero. This can cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.
An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect until 1 PM Saturday due to these dangerous wind chills. Highs on Saturday will only be a few degrees above and below zero, but the wind will diminish. Lows Saturday night will be back in the single digits, teens and 20s below zero.
If you must be outdoors, dress in layers to trap in body heat, and wear a hat and gloves. If you’re traveling, keep an extra pair as well as a blanket in your vehicle in case of an emergency. Don’t forget, PLEASE KEEP THE PETS INDOORS.
Sunday’s highs will be in the single digits to low teens, then the focus turns to accumulating snow Sunday afternoon through Monday, with a foot or more possible, especially in southern parts of the region.
