Lt. Gov. Rodgers announces reelection bid

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Republican Lieutenant Governor John Rodgers announced Tuesday he is running for a second term, saying he wants to continue working to build Vermont’s workforce, make the state more affordable, and help the next generation of Vermonters stay in the state.

Rodgers said he wants to elevate Vermonters’ voices at the state level and give a platform to those who are underrepresented in government.

“I will keep working with the governor’s office and legislators every day, building bridges necessary to defeat the affordability crisis taxing us and holding us back,” Rodgers said.

The former Democrat was elected two years ago when the GOP made historic gains at the Statehouse. He’s the only Republican to announce so far.

Three Democrats are vying for their party’s nomination: Molly Gray, Ryan McLaren, and Esther Charlestin.
