Snow could impact Wednesday morning commute in parts of Vermont

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – A batch of snow showers will move into Vermont and northern New York tonight and continue into Wednesday morning, which could impact the morning commute.

Snow showers in the St. Lawrence Valley and Adirondacks Tuesday evening will spread east into Vermont during the predawn and early morning hours. Accumulation won’t be impressive, but the timing between 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. is what will make the snow more impactful.

The northern Champlain Valley, including the Burlington area, could see a brief period of hazardous travel during the early morning hours. Impacts could extend farther east into the Green Mountains and Northeast Kingdom if enough snow falls. Give yourself more time for your commute and drive with caution. Roads could be slick in spots.

Snow should wrap up in the valleys by 8 a.m., lingering later into the day in the northern Green Mountains.

Snow totals will only be between a dusting and an inch in most of Northern Vermont, but the northern Green Mountains could pick up several inches through the end of Wednesday. Jay Peak will likely be the hot spot, with 6″ possible at summit level.

Southern Vermont and the Upper Valley won’t see much, if any snow Wednesday, so impacts to travel should be minimal.

Another round of light snow showers is likely Wednesday night into Thursday as another weak system moves through. The northern Adirondacks and northern and central Green Mountains have the best chance to see snow Wednesday night.

The First Alert Weather Team is also tracking the chance for snow Friday evening associated with an Arctic cold front that will bring us another round of dangerously cold wind chills this weekend.
