WCAX obtains video from fatal police shooting in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Vt. (WCAX) – WCAX News has obtained body camera footage showing the moments leading up to a deadly officer-involved shooting in Springfield.

The 30 seconds of body camera footage was received through a public records request. The video shows officers giving commands before shots are fired.

Last week, the Vermont attorney general declined to prosecute Windsor County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Jalava and Springfield Police Ofc. Vincent Franchi in connection with the shooting that killed James Crary last August.

The attorney general determined there was no way for law enforcement to get out of the way of the car that accelerated toward them, driven by Crary. The office said the officers were justified in their use of deadly force.
