SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Reports of a package exploding in the back of a U.S. Postal Service vehicle outside the South Burlington Post Office on Friday drew a large response.
When fire and hazmat crews arrived at the scene at about 12:30 p.m., they believed the package had some sort of liquid inside that had absorbed around it.
First responders said people at the scene were evaluated at the hospital.
“People that had the respiratory irritant, it was a minor irritant. At this time there’s not concern that whatever was in the package was any chemical that was any major toxicity or anything like that,” South Burlington Deputy Fire Chief Chris Corbin said.
The Vermont State Police bomb squad and their robot were also on scene as a precaution.
Crews cleared out after a few hours.
