ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt. (WCAX) – A mother is channeling grief into saving lives, as Tammy Carroll turns heartbreak into hope for other families.
Each February, over 100 volunteers roll up their sleeves and donate their blood in memory of a life cut short.
Carroll lost her daughter, Addi, to an unknown illness in 2022. Throughout her treatment, blood was vital to Addi’s life, inspiring her mother to host an annual blood drive now in her honor.
“The department said we are getting extra precious time with Addi, so we wanted that for other families. We started hosting this blood drive while Addi was still alive,” said Tammy Carroll of Essex Junction.
The Essex Fire Department helped make Addi’s wish of owning a pool a reality in 2016. Now, they are continuing to help her memory live on through blood donations and a fire engine named after their biggest supporter.
