BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Burlington City Council on Monday will consider whether to accept a donated statue to replace the Chief Greylock monument that used to stand in Battery Park.
The Abenaki Nation of Mississquoi commissioned a replacement structure to donate to the city. The double-sided statue features an Abenaki figure on one side and a wildlife totem on the other, with an eagle sculpture planned for the top section.
The new statue would replace the Chief Greylock statue that stood for 40 years in Battery Park. The monument was removed last year after it was deemed a public safety risk.
