PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – High electric bills have some utility customers in Northern New York crying foul.
Friday, Democratic New York Assemblyman Michael Cashman fielded questions from concerned ratepayers at Senior Planet in Plattsburgh.
Cashman has a bill in the works to cap rate increase costs at 2.5%. It would also impose civil penalties on utility companies that don’t comply with the potential statute.
One senior said her bills keep increasing and she isn’t told why.
“My concern is being on a fixed income, will this be a continuing situation? Will I be confronted with higher bills as the year goes on?” said Carol Solari-Ruscoe of Peru, N.Y.
Cashman is calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul to intervene through an executive directive while his bill works its way through the Legislature.
