BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Saxtons River is getting a new fire station.
On Friday, Senator Welch joined firefighters and community leaders in Bellows Falls to celebrate nearly $600,000 in federal funding to help build it and expand emergency services.
He says firefighters there are operating in unsafe facilities that were damaged by Tropical Storm Irene nearly 15 years ago.
The senator is also urging Congress to pass a bill that requires the government to pay for crucial EMS services.
