BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Here’s a look at what to do on this snowy Saturday.
Celebrate all this fresh snow at the St. Albans Winter Carnival. Take a ride in a horse drawn sleigh, ski or sled, and enjoy live music in the evening. If you get too cold, warm up by the fire pit with s’mores and hot cocoa, but don’t miss the Duct Tape Derby! Participants will build a sled out of cardboard and duct tape, and race down the hill, starting at 2 p.m. today. The carnival will be at the Hard’Ack Recreation Center, and the festivities will be going on all day.
Compete for the Golden Cheese Award at the Curds and Curling Competition at the Highland Center for the Arts in Greensboro. A wheel of cheddar from Jasper Hill farms is the star, sweep it across the finish line to win the grand prize. There will also be mac and cheese and raclette if the competition isn’t cheesy enough for you. Tickets start around $12 for adults, and $5 for students. The showdown starts at 11 a.m.
Put on your fancy shoes for the Masquerade Jazz and Funk Winter Music Carnival at the Barnard Town Hall in the Upper Valley. Hosted by BarnArts, and featuring live music from various artists, you can also craft your own mask, and feast on a taco bar. Tickets are at a sliding scale, but they start around $25 for adults and $15 for students. The party starts at 5:30 p.m. tonight.
