BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The Great Backyard Bird Count kicks off on Friday. The four-day community science initiative is a global event to help scientists get a better idea of migrating bird populations.
And you can help! The Green Mountain Audubon Society says it’s as easy as downloading an app on your phone. You can even participate from the comfort of your home.
“Whether it’s their window feeder of their backyard, they can observe and record birds via eBird or Merlin. Any of these recordings or submissions will automatically be counted toward the Great Backyard Bird Count,” said David Hewitt of the Green Mountain Audubon Society.
Audubon Vermont is hosting an event at their center in Huntington on Friday at 2 p.m.
And the Birds of Vermont Museum has an event on Saturday.
