Homeward Bound, Addison County’s Humane Society, is hosting a Microchip Clinic on Wednesday, June 25, from 3:30-4:30pm. Shelter staff ask that all dogs be on leash and cats be in carriers for this drive-thru style event. Pre-registration is required. The cost is $25 and includes the microchip implant and initial registration.
A micro-chip is a very small electronic chip that is inserted under the skin between a pet’s shoulder blades which contains all the owner’s contact information. Most veterinary offices and shelters can scan for this chip and quickly identify the owner. The entire process takes less than two minutes and is almost painless.
Homeward Bound’s medical programs manager, Chelsey Berlic, shares, “There are still many, many animals in Addison County without microchips who would benefit from the upcoming clinic. So far this year, 54 stray animals have entered the shelter but only 17 were reunited with their families. We urge anyone whose dog or cat is not yet microchipped to take advantage of this low-cost option here at the shelter. It is truly the best way to safeguard a pet should they become lost.”
