BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Monday was the deadline for the Good Citizen Challenge, the summer youth civics project brought to you by Seven Days, with support from the Vermont Community Foundation.
A flurry of entries came in right at the end — kids across Vermont did nearly 1,000 activities in this summer’s Challenge. They designed new Future Voter stickers, visited fire and rescue squads, and read the newspaper, among many other things.
Thursday, Seven Days is giving away the grand prize: a free trip for two to Washington, D.C., donated by Milne Travel.
We’re still tallying all of the activities, but we have several kids who qualify as Distinguished Citizens this year — they did all of the activities. We’ll be honoring them at a reception at the Statehouse during the next legislative session. We’ll announce their names and the winners of the Future Voter sticker contest soon.
