BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – There’s still time to register for non-profit Old Spokes Home’s fall fundraiser.
It’s their ninth annual ride. Cyclists can opt to ride 15, 40, 70, or 100 kilometers, staying closer to home in Burlington or taking on gravel and hills out in Monkton.
Last year, the event raised a record of nearly $60,000.
This fall, they’re already at $64,000 of their $70,000 goal.
Registration for Old Spokes’ bike discount program jumped by 64% this year.
The non-profit’s executive director says the ride is their biggest moneymaker, essential for making bikes accessible for those who need them most.
“Bikes are their primary form of transportation. It’s an affordable, easy-to-maintain way to get around. It’s also great from a health perspective; it’s the healthiest way to get around. And also, everyone who’s ridden a bike knows, bikes are magic,” said Sarah Camille of Old Spokes Home. “Whether you’re 5 or 95, a bike is an amazing thing and we want everyone to be able to have access to that, for practical reasons, and also for fun reasons and everything in between.”
The ride ends with a party from 2 to 5 p.m. with live music, food, drinks, and a pie contest.
Make sure to register by today if you want to ride.
