ASCUTNEY, Vt. (WCAX) – An employee-owned company in the Upper Valley helping to build the region’s civil infrastructure celebrated a milestone Friday.
Employees of Neil H. Daniels threw themselves a party at their Ascutney headquarters. The four brothers started the business, which mostly repairs bridges and culverts, back in 1965. It now has 55 employees and is 100% employee-owned.
“Everyone cares about their jobs and doing them correctly, so we have a profit and that profit goes into an account at the end of every year, a personal account for them. It’s a huge retirement plan and huge benefit,” said the company’s Scott Sweet.
The company replaced roughly a dozen bridges across the state in the immediate aftermath of Tropical Storm Irene. It now does upwards of $20 million a year in business.
