HARDWICK, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont migrant advocates say immigration officials are ramping up enforcement following several recent detentions in Hardwick.
The group Migrant Justice says nine construction workers were stopped and detained by ICE officials. Video shows plainclothes officers responding in undercover vehicles.
Unlike previous immigration raids, these happened in different places in the community.
The group’s Will Lambek says the detentions mark a shift where immigration officials are gathering more information on undocumented migrants. “ICE agents clearly had knowledge about these workers’ vehicles, their whereabouts, and were able to track them on the way to work and detain them at a number of different locations around town,” he said.
Eight workers are currently being detained by ICE, one of them in Massachusetts and another in Louisiana.
