This Day in History: October 24, 1986

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The story of the love-sick moose on this day in history.

On October 24, 1986, we visited the Carrara Farm in Shrewsbury for a most unusual courtship.

A big bull moose, who was given the name Bullwinkle, had shown up and taken an interest in a cow named Jessica.

For 76 days, the moose pursued the hard-to-get Hereford.

The love story attracted thousands of onlookers.

Eventually, Bullwinkle got tired of the cold shoulder from Jessica and headed off for greener pastures.
