BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Job seekers, entrepreneurs, and tech professionals will gather Saturday at Hula coworking space in Burlington for Seven Days’ annual Vermont Tech Jam career and tech expo.
The event features companies and guest speakers designed to connect attendees with potential employers through face-to-face networking rather than online applications.
“It’s a great place to evade the algorithms and get out from behind the AI systems managing people’s recruitment portals and actually make a personal connection,” said Cathy Resmer of Seven Days.
Businesses and speakers from across the region will discuss topics including health care, artificial intelligence, and robotics. Jaine Perotti, a robotics engineer at GreenSea IQ in Richmond, will be among the presenters.
“The goal of this presentation is going to be to demonstrate the value of Vermont tech companies supporting, mentoring, and also volunteering with the FIRST robotics competition,” Perotti said.
Perotti got her start in the FIRST robotics competition, a nonprofit that provides team-based robotics activities for kids. She credits her experience in FIRST with launching her engineering career. “Without a doubt, if I had not experienced the FIRST robotics competition as a high schooler, I never would have gone to college for engineering and I never would have worked at GreenSea as a robotics engineer,” Perotti said.
The Vermont Tech Jam runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are free, but organizers suggest attendees dress for success.
