PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) – A call for help providing Thanksgiving meals in the North Country this holiday season.
Denis King volunteers at MHAB, an organization that provides resources to New Yorkers in recovery.
He says they served more than 2,000 Thanksgiving meals last year.
This year, he expects that to skyrocket to well above 3,000 amid the government shutdown and its impacts on food assistance.
However, he says the event is more than just a meal.
“I think it’s about people and people not being alone. You know, there are from all walks of life, and so are the volunteers, and I think it is just about the volunteers and saying, yes, here is a meal,” said King.
In total, he says they’ve raised half of what it costs to make the meals.
