BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – On this day in history: the opening of Vermont’s first modern enclosed shopping center.
The Burlington Square Mall welcomed shoppers starting November 1st, 1976. Burlington Square was the centerpiece of the city’s urban renewal development and the keystone for the later development of the Church Street Marketplace.
The mall is no more, torn down in 2017 to make way for the CityPlace project, which has since been re-branded as Burlington Square.
