RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – Child care services are expanding in Southern Vermont thanks to a new grant.
The Rutland County Parent-Child Center was awarded $900,000 through the William and Dorothy O’Neill Foundation.
The money will fund the Families at the Center program for at least the next three years.
The program connects local families with community resources, like mental health care, housing and state agencies, something organizers say makes the process more simple when child care needs are high throughout the state.
“Especially now with the current atmosphere, families are really struggling to meet their basic needs. They’re struggling to navigate systems that exist and they’re struggling to make it to their goals and meet their families’ needs. So, it’s so important that we have the opportunity to work with families to remove any barriers,” said Corissa Burnell of the Rutland County Parent-Child Center.
The grant will also help fund the Sunrise Family Resource Center in Bennington, providing a wider range of care for families in Southern Vermont.
