WEST PAWLET, Vt. (WCAX) – A West Pawlet man died this week nearly three months after Vermont State Police say someone assaulted him, prompting authorities to launch a homicide investigation.
Mark Ray, 54, died Wednesday from pneumonia and severe traumatic brain injury, according to Vermont State Police. Ray had been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries since the August 24, 2025 assault at the Newmont Slate Quarry off Route 149 in West Pawlet.
Police are now calling this a homicide investigation. No one is currently in custody.
