BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Fraudulent documents led to the detention of a Winooski mother and her 7-year-old son over the holiday weekend, according to federal authorities.
Customs and Border Protection told WCAX the pair, along with another adult man, were refused entry into Canada at the Highgate Springs crossing last Thursday.
Border officers searched their car and found fraudulent documents, including a fraudulent lawful permanent resident card and a fraudulent Social Security card, officials said.
They were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending further proceedings.
Winooski’s superintendent said they are being held in a facility in Texas.
The superintendent wants to get the student home to go to school while they wait for their court date in early January.
