Essex County, NY, sees spike in overdose deaths

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. (WCAX) – Overdose deaths in Essex County, New York, have seen a sharp spike over the last month after decreasing last year.

Essex County Health Department officials said three people died of suspected overdoses over the last 30 days. It comes as there were only two overdose deaths all of last year. They are still investigating possible causes.

Officials say Narcan and other harm reduction supplies are available at any of their three community kiosks.

“If you have a family member that you know is struggling with a substance use disorder, we are more than happy to get you this life-saving type of medicine to reverse that if you are in any way concerned,” said the health department’s Linda Beers.

The kiosks can be found at the Essex County Sheriff’s Department, the Motor Vehicles building, and at the Mountain Lake Services thrift store.
