Vermont deer harvest in line with 3-year average

MONTPELIER, Vt. (WCAX) – Vermont hunters harvested just over 17,700 deer during the 2025 seasons, close to the three-year average.

Preliminary data from Vermont Fish and Wildlife shows hunters took nearly 9,700 bucks, up slightly from 9,356 in 2024 and close to the previous three-year average of 9,608.

The antlerless deer harvest was just over 8,000, up from the previous three-year average of 7,598.

“Most seasons had total deer harvests that were within 1-2 percent of the previous 3-year average. The only exception was the December muzzleloader season, when consistent snow cover across the state contributed to an increased harvest,” the department’s Nick Fortin said in a statement.

Final harvest numbers will be available in early March.
