KILLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – Frigid temperatures didn’t stop die-hard skiers and riders from hitting the slopes at Killington Resort on Saturday.
Despite sub-zero conditions, thousands bundled up to explore the mountain and take advantage of fresh snow.
“Not the coldest in my life one time it was -42 but that was pretty cold,” said Killington local Kristina Tooker.
Kyle Cohick traveled from Boston, Massachusetts, and came prepared for the brutal conditions.
“Trying to stay warm, I got hand warmers feet warmers, I got four layers on underneath this, so just trying to stay warm,” Cohick said.
Skiers and riders of all ages layered up to get in on the fun in the sun, including young Beatrice, who said she had completed three runs by midday.
The Snowden Six Pack lift, a bubble chair, offered relief on the bitter day and was one of just a few lifts open in the chilly conditions.
The incoming snowstorm had many visitors buzzing with excitement about potential fresh powder.
“Get up as much as possible, hoping for a lot of snowfall just trying to get in as many runs as possible,” said Ally Rudolph from Boston, Massachusetts.
Some skiers adjusted their travel plans to adapt to the forecast. Colin Weber from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, extended his stay.
“Initially the plan was to try and leave on Sunday, but with the way the forecast looks and I’ll say with the vehicle I have I’ll probably be sticking it out one extra day,” Weber said.
Many planned to spend another cold day at the mountain with hopes of a foot of potential powder.
“I’m excited for what that means for the rest of the season I mean the East Coast has been blessed with so much snow compared to the rest of the country right now and I think its gonna be an awesome season,” Cohick said.
