Congress passes bill named after North Country veteran

WASHINGTON (WCAX) – The U.S. House has passed a bill to enhance access to veteran benefits that was named after a North Country veteran.

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik introduced the “Ernest Peltz Accrued Veteran Benefits Act.” The bill expands and expedites benefits for veterans’ families after their death.

Stefanik said she was inspired to introduce the legislation after seeing the struggles Peltz’s family went through to access benefits after his death.

The bill now moves to the Senate.
