RUTLAND, Vt. (WCAX) – John Deere, the influential inventor of farm machinery, was born on this day in history.
Born on February 7, 1804, Deere grew up in Middlebury where he trained to be a blacksmith. He later moved to Illinois, where he would invent the first steel plow, which revolutionized plowing farm fields. From that humble starting point, John Deere would grow into the largest farm equipment manufacturer in the world, with it’s signature green and yellow paint scheme.
