This Day in History: Vermont teen wins Giant slalom in Oslo

OSLO, Norway (WCAX) – A Vermonter won Olympic Glory in 1952, on this day in history.

Andrea Mead Lawrence won the Giant slalom at the Winter Olympics in Oslo. Six days later, she also won the slalom, becoming the first American skier to win two Olympic gold medals. The 19 year old’s success was not a surprise. Just a few weeks earlier she was on the cover of Time Magazine, serving as the face of American hopes at the Oslo Games.
